Sasha Sloan Releases Video For "at least i look cool", Announces Fall Tour

In perhaps the most relatable song of the summer, Los Angeles singer-songwriter Sasha Sloan tells us, “I drive a car that doesn’t work, I shop at Target for my shirts.” Girl, same. It’s jarringly refreshing to hear someone be so frank, especially in a town famous for its artifice.

The music video for Sloan’s new single “at least i look cool” was released today ahead of the announcement of a string of tour dates in November and December that she’s calling the “let’s get sad” tour. The video finds her wandering through a party full of people with their faces in their phones, seeking out some form of connection and failing to find it. The reality of her big night out (“I’m getting off my shitty couch”) is a bit more grim than the poolside pictures she sings about posting would suggest, but as the audience, we’re being afforded something that her Instagram followers are not, which is the truth. Eventually she leaves the Malibu house party, trying to conceal the fact that her ride is an Uber Pool.

Sloan gently pokes fun at the irony of hollow Instagram-centric millennial party culture, but she doesn’t completely exonerate herself in the process. Who among us hasn’t spent an evening posing as something we’re not?
